Back in 1998, I lived at Bay & Bloor and despaired of walking all the way to Markham to rent a DVD. Eureka! I found Bay Street Video, tucked behind Tim Hortons, just south of Bloor. Little yellow post-its with earnest staff recommendations; the whole Criterion Collection; endless BBC productions on DVD... it was true love. They've grown in size but remain indie at heart, and claim to have Toronto's largest DVD collection. I salute them for giving me 10 years of awesome service.
They have a terrific selection of foreign films, tv series and documentaries. Renting a few movies for a whole week is a great idea - and a tv series is even better. At the Festival italiano they also have a good sale of used dvds for $3,5,7.
I bought movies at there for 5000$, the master pieces of Cinema. Such a unique palce, I took notes with me to write down what I will work for and what to buy... Unfortunately a guy broke into my apartment and stole the hole 200 item collection. My heart was broken. I will never able to buy them again....
This video store is the reason i got a Visa card (not a joke) during high school. I have rented tons of wierd shit since and i haven't looked back. Nice staff. Very helpful. Best Horror selection in the city. Great prices. Next to Honest Eds.
If you have heard lots of good things about this video store but you don't have a membership. get one!
Queen video is my favourite source for indie and foreign films, TV on DVD and mainstream block busters.
Cheap, Fast, Convenient, Awesome movies, nuff sed.
It's open 24 hours a day, the rentals are cheap (start at $2.50), stock awesome movies and games... they also Buy and Trade videogames at great rates, rent the Wii console and Guitar Hero with the guitar!
Along with the new releases, they carry a bevy of carefully chosen older titles. They have a lot of the Criterion Collection titles and sell a slew of vintage DVDs, VHSs and paraphanelia. I have boycotted Blockbuster video as a result of this find. There are some other great video stores around the city, but this one is the closest to my house, great choice if you live in the Dundas St. West/Bloor St. West area.
they have the whole Criterion collection. And it's right next to Mexitaco!
