The Annex

Bloor St. W., between Bathurst and Spadina, Toronto ON

Favourite things at The Annex (11 Faves)

Relatively new to the area, I had no idea how nice it could be to wander around when there's the nip of fall in the air, and the trees explode with colour. They do explode, but in the good way. So remain calm.

Amazing diversity and eclectic and intellectual mix of people. You can find that book from the past, an avant garde film, or antiques from overseas. You have to check out all the bookstores and music stores in the area, between sumptuous lattes, thai pad thai, and italian seafood, while walking down the Tafelmusik practicing on the street side. A truly unique TO cultural experience.

Makes you feel cool... just finding it!!!! It is a laid-back, dimly lit haven for misfits and other artistic types....

You feel like you are not in the city for a short while, and the homes are all very interesting to admire and critique.

I love this place. They have an amazing selection of bento boxes, etc. You might have to wait nearly an hour to be seated but the cheap and delicious food is definitely worth the wait. Yum!

I know it seems like Toronto has a million summer festivals but trust me, if you love theatre - you don't want to miss the Fringe. There's something like twenty venues and over a hundred and thirty companies. If you're poor, like me, it's okay. Tickets are $10! They also sell passes (see website at www.fringetoronto.com). You can also chat with the artists at the beer tent after the show. This year it runs from July 4th to the 15th. Don't miss it!

Well, because I live there, and because I love it. An artist's and student's haven, The Annex is diverse and full of culture. Best neighbourhood in the city, hands down!

Toronto's best kept secret for cheap eats and good drinks. It's difficult to find as you have to go through a back alley to find it and crawl through a tiny door - just ask a local when you're in the neighbourhood.
