it is miraculously umami even without any real oyster sauce. This signature dish is made according to traditional Chinese Buddhist principles without any pungent vegetables such as garlic but is still deeply flavourful. A variety of mock meats made out of wheat gluten (also known as seitan) add protein & punch to the glistening mountain of fried noodles & assorted vegetables. One order of chow mein is enough to feed two people with plenty of leftovers for work lunches later in the week.

Cheap. Large portions (one dish will feed two). This place is a long way from glamouros and I love that. You won't be bombarded by music, television, ads or trendy atmosphere. It's simple and functional. I've had some of my favourite conversations here. My crew consistenly orders the Singapore Curry, Imitation Duck and Spring Rolls, if more people come we add the Vegetable and Cashews dish. My Gods, I want to eat there right now.

Anyone that can make food as addictive as this without garlic or onions must be holy. I almost threw up with happiness when I ate an entire order of fake duck to myself.

Have you seen the quantity of really good, fresh food they bring you? Bring your own tupperware because you're going to need it. Small soup, rice and one dish (~$13 total) will easily serve two with some to take home.

The interior is stark and the decor hasn't changed in years but the plates are delicious, heaped with tasty mock meat dishes. Yum.

I'm not a vegetarian, in fact I'm a huge carnivorous beast, but this place used to be my favourte restaurant for quite some time. It's a different type of Chinese cuisine than the shops along Spadina, but it's infinitely better. It doesn't attempt to present any type of atmosphere except for somewhere you can eat. But you come for the food and stay for the food and get conquered by the food.

The imitation duck is fantastic (while nothing like duck). Ambiance is lacking but portions are huge and prices are low.

portions the size of monsters for insignificant amounts of currency. You give them the currency, they give you the portions. Imitation duck is the topper.
