Favourite things at Bakka-Phoenix Science Fiction and Fantasy Bookstore

Nerd alert! I read a lot of fantasy and a bit of sci-fi as a teenager, and even way back then, Bakka was feeding my overactive imagination with Spider Robinson, Charles DeLint, Anne McCaffrey and Orson Scott Card. Staff are warm and cuddly and give great recommendations. Also, I have to love any store named after Fremen legend. In Frank Herbert's novel Dune, Bakka was "the weeper who mourns for all mankind." I just wish they’d stop moving around: Queen, Yonge, Queen again? Stay put!

Bakka is one of the vanishing breed of small, independently-run bookstores that truly know and understand their stock and their customers. It's a place where you can walk in, tell the staff what you like, and they will be able to pick out several more books that you will enjoy. Returning customers can soon identify which of the many hand-written reviews on the books are by staff who share their reading tastes, and all of this makes it very easy to find something you will truly enjoy.
