mattblackett's fave patio is at Cadillac Lounge because I used to have dreams as a kid where I'd discover rooms in my house I'd never seen -- they'd keep unfolding. I had spent a few nights drinking (in the winter) at the CL and one day discovered the back patio when spring sprung. It gave me deja vu to those dreams as a kid. The patio at CL is huge and perfect for summer drinking.

mattblackett's fave City Hall is at Queen St. W. and Bay because New City Hall is my favourite building in the city. It is a symbol for the city -- it speaks of boldness with an eye clearly fixated on the future. Nowadays, that symbolism is lost on a number of our politicians, but the building's very existence is a reminder of how important our local government is.

mattblackett's fave distraction is at the sidewalk because I sometimes go for strolls in the evening just to clear my head or sort thru an idea. My greatest distraction is always the neighbourhood cats whom I always seem to walk to talk to and pet. I love seeing 'hoods with an active cat community -- I think it says something good about the place. Dogs are great too, but seeing them wander around alone usally means trouble for someone.

mattblackett's fave bike lane is at St. George Street/Beverley Street because The best bike lane is the city has to be St. George-Beverley streets, especially going southbound. It is a nice secondary road with hardly any parking making it much safer than most bike lanes in the city. It goes from Bloor to Queen and provides the best access to the downtown core than any other bike lane. photo by Brian Campbell.

mattblackett's fave view of Toronto is at Bathurst and St. Clair because I used to live at Bathurst and St. Clair W and one day discovered I could access the roof of my apartment building. Becuz of its position at the top of the old lip of Lake Iroquois (L. Ontario's predecessor) you can see almost to the south side of the lake and north to Orangeville.

mattblackett's fave laneway is at Croft Street because Croft Street is an laneway just east of Bathurst, running north from College to just south of Bloor. It is home to amazing graffiti and murals, but it is also the front yards of people's home. It is one of the few examples of laneway housing in the city. Just north of College is the best examples of how to effectively implement this form of density.

mattblackett's fave intersection is at Bloor and Brunswick because This crossroads is one of the best examples of Toronto's moniker of a "city of neighbourhoods." Its bustling and vibrant at all times of the day. It hasn't succumed to chain stores. Even with 100s of drunk students spilling out at 2am, it still has its charm.

mattblackett's fave Lamp post bass is at Bellevue Square Park in Kensington because Local artist RGB decided one day to install bass strings to a lamp post in a park in Kensington. The bass is perfectly tuned and can be played by those with calloused fingers and an ear for low-end groove. RGB plans to install more across the city this summer.

mattblackett's fave Pedestrian Sundays is at Kensington Market because Turning the Market into a car-free zone for a few hours ona Sunday once a month is a great start to showing how we can transform local neighbourhoods into a much healthier community. Seeing all those people out strolling the streets is a sign that our city is *starting* to wrap its head around car-dominated planning.

mattblackett's fave TTC subway font is at All over subway system because I love the TTC's font. It was originally created for the TTC and has been in use since the late 1940s and the designer is unknown. It is loosely based on the font Futura. Its style is a reminder of the period in which in came into existence -- progress, modernism, and a bright future were the mantra of the day.

mattblackett's fave Dupont Subway Station is at Dupont and Spadina Rd because Out of all the subway stations in the city, Dupont is my fave. I often tell people that the station has no sharp edges -- almost every corner is rounded. The round, orange tiles are in stark contrast is the subdued hues of the Bloor-Danfoth subway line. The large tile mosiac, called Springtime on Dupont, was created by James Sutherland. There are a number of wonderfully flowing flower mosiacs near the fare collector's booth that are poorly lit by these round, bulbous lights.

mattblackett's fave Graffiti is at Dupont and Bathurst because It was meant for only a few people to see -- those who walk along the CN rail tracks just north of Dupont. The style matches the tone so well.
