You know, I understand what you're saying. Am I glad the health department was called in? Absolutely. Do I understand how difficult it must be to recover from a massive media frenzy about your rat problem? Absolutely. It would be pretty naive to think that the infestation was limited to that one establishment, if one knows anything about the ways of the rat. And I know that ignorance is bliss when it comes to what goes on in many resto kitchens - on both ends of the price continuum and in all neighbourhoods. But I do still have some bad feeling remaining about the fact that those rat photos were taken mid-day, and that means employees knowingly prepared food in unsanitary conditions. That too is a complex issue, of course. People need to ensure their jobs and businesses continue to exist. But man, it still turns my stomach. I've eaten in many developing countries from street stalls and alleyway kitchenettes where at least things were clean and pest-free during open hours. I'd like to feel comfortable eating a round of shumai at Dumpling House, but I just don't think I could do it now. Too bad though - it was on my list of places to try for a long time, and I was really looking forward. Enjoy yours brave soul.
Welcome to the site! Enjoy! Great faves so far.
Since this counts as one of my locals, this is especially good to know. I've had weekend brunch, and grilled fish on the summer patio, but never the burger. Saved.
