Goldilocks's fave sweet spot is at Butter Baked Goods because When they say butter they mean it. Fabulous handmade marshmallows and Oreo-style sandwich cookies. A gorgeous shop with beautifully packaged lovely treats.

Goldilocks's fave Boulangerie is at Fieldstone, Crescent Beach because The amazing breads and pastries use organic flours and local ingredients. Spicy samosa bread and tarte flambe both make me weak at the knees.

Goldilocks's fave Über-girly Boutique is at Banshee Clothing because There’s no better place for those extras that every truly (or even occasionally) girly girl needs: feather boas in various colours, long slinky gloves, striped thigh-highs and lacy body stockings. Somehow they manage to stay just on the safe side of hooker-style. I think.

Goldilocks's fave Marshmallow Heaven is at Butter Baked Goods Ltd because Imagine an enormous, mocha-flavoured marshmallow topping your next mug of cocoa. Butter Baked Goods has a whole range of homemade mallows—think strawberry and toasted coconut—and a belly-pleasing array of other sweet concoctions. I devoured a handmade version of an Oreo cookie, so big I could hardly hold onto it, and immediately lapsed into delirium. By far the prettiest bakery I’ve ever been to.

Goldilocks's fave Fresh Off the Boats is at Fisherman’s Wharf, Steveston because If you go down to the docks in the village of Steveston you can buy shrimp, prawns, salmon and halibut straight from the fishing boats. Seafood doesn’t get any fresher, and your money goes directly to the fisherman, with no middleman involved. Shopping here is a bargain; I bought a whole bag of side stripe shrimps for $5.00 and made plentiful fajitas for two.

Goldilocks's fave A Perfect Café is at Prado Café because Vancouver cafés are like pubs in England: places for regulars to chat each other up or sit quietly with a notebook. Of course the ultimate café makes a great-tasting latte, but it has to be so much more. A bright, uncluttered space with lots of light, exposed brick interiors, free wireless and unusual music. Premise-baked muffins with cream cheese centres and chocolate chip granola bars are necessities.

Once on the island you can pick berries, taste different kinds of honey (like pumpkin!), visit a fruit winery, or explore the Reifel bird sanctuary. Follow River Road about 3km past the village of Ladner. The bridge is to your right.

Goldilocks's fave Crescent Beach Boulangerie is at Fieldstone Artisan Breads because It's the perfect excuse to indulge in my favourite food group: carbs. Using organic flour and mostly locally-grown ingredients, they create marvels like a cheesy garlicky loaf and a spicy, samosa-inspired bread. But the genius goes beyond bread, extending to a delightful selection of pastries. Lesser lemon tarts are often a bit too sweet or dish-soapy-tasting, but these are just right.
