Lee
603 King St. W.
Toronto ON

I had high expectations going to Lee. With all the grumblings of Susur's genius and temperment, I thought that there had to be something to his food. And sure enough, everything we ordered lived up to Susur's reputation. The orzo crab was my favourite.

BMV Books
10 Edward St
Toronto ON

This place has obscure books that you'd be hard-pressed to find at Chapters. Their cookbook section is hard to resist. They seem to have everything.

Spring Rolls

It's for those times when you want Viet/Thai food but not real Viet/Thai food, per se. I usually order the standard pad thai followed by the fried banana dessert.

Chippy's Fish and Chips

I think I'm drawn to place for its marketing. The name is cute and they sell the original glass bottled Cokes. And maybe also their tartar sauce.

Rahier Patisserie
1586 Bayview Avenue
Toronto
I once bought almond butter to spread on bread when I was craving Rahier's almond croissants. Big mistake. It tasted exactly like peanut butter. I'll be sticking to Rahier's.

My friend and I have an unspoken tradition where every Christmas season, we end up at the Eaton Centre doing last, last, LAST minute shopping. It's always packed, and we always regret the decision. To make ourselves feel better, we always go to Mr. Greenjeans for chicken fingers and sweet potato fries.

New Ho King
416 Spadina Av
Toronto ON

My friend and I once craved New Ho King so much that we trekked from Richmond St. to its Spadina location in our bare feet. That's what a night of dancing in three inch heels will do, I guess. We did it for the love. The love of their deep fried spicy squid and chicken fried rice. Sometimes I wonder if I go out just so I can have this at the end of the night.

Spuntini Italian Restaurant
116 Avenue Rd.
Toronto ON

At night, their upstairs patio is magically lit, making it ideal for intimate dinners. Consider sharing the tasty rissoto funghi as an appetizer. Having it all to yourself can sometimes be too much of a good thing -- it's very filling.

The Cupcake Shoppe
2417 Yonge Street
Toronto ON

The bakery is full of beautifully tinted cupcakes, but my favourite is the least prettiest of them all. The sticky n' sweet. It's a vanilla cupcake dipped in caramel with a jube jube on top. The underdog, if you will.

Yamato Japanese Restaurant
24 Bellair St.
Toronto ON

I love sitting on their patio in the summertime, people watching. It's the perfect place to have a quick lunch break after a long day of shopping up and down Bloor St. While their sushi and teppanyaki are pretty average, their katsu don is what keeps me coming back. It's a huge bowl of rice topped with breaded pork chop and sauce with an egg cooked on top.
